It's been awhile... [21 Feb 2007|12:37am]
[ mood | crappy ]

It has been quite some time my friends. I suppose I could give you all some bullshit story about how I just haven't had time to update my livejournal. But, that would be untrue. The idea of posting my ideas, my thoughts, my fears, and my daily live on a website that I know multiple people read, has lost its appeal. Then again, talking to most people has lost its appeal these days.

So, here's my update:

My mom is now in a rehab facility in Florence. She's doing much better, thanks to the prayers of lots of people. She is still facing a lot of challenges in her future. But, she's made great progress and I'm very thankful for that.

My Dad took two chemo sessions in Florence and then went to Birmingham. They told him that the chemo had significantly reduced the size of his tumor. (For those of you who don't know, my dad was diagnosed with throat/vocal cord cancer right before my mom had her stroke.) Next week, he starts a rigorous regime of chemo and radiation, every day for seven weeks. After that, assuming that it's still successful, he will be done.

I've postponed my graduation until the August 07 degree term. It just wasn't worth stressing myself out to get a degree in May. Also, I'm not going to walk. But, I'll be in Florence and Lexington with a little extra time at the beginning of May to see people.

Other than these things, my life has been quite boring. I go to work. I go to school. I see a handful of people. I fight with one in particular a lot. But, that's going to be over soon enough, thank god.

I'm ready for Spring Break. I'm ready to stop worrying about school. I'm ready to dye my hair and cut it all off like Brittany Spears. (Yeah, okay, or not.)

Anyways, like I'm done. Time to go be a drunk for the third time today.

May the road rise to meet you all. And may peace find you.

My Mom [08 Nov 2006|01:04am]
[ mood | depressed ]

On Tuesday, November 7th, my mom suffered a massive stroke.

She's comfortable. She's suffered major permanant damage on the right side of her brain.

Until further notice, I'm in Alabama.

Pray for me. Pray for her.

Go call your mom and tell her you love her.

Blurry Times [09 Jun 2006|03:20am]
[ mood | cold ]

So, I found out today (6/8) that my mom has leukemia. It's been a really hard day for me, but my friends have really pulled it through for me and I think half the time I cried, I cried because I understood what it was like to have people there for me in a really difficult time.

My mom starts chemo treatments tomorrow at UAB. I've withdrawn from school for the summer, and I'll be in Florence starting Friday.

Keep my family in your thoughts, please.

-I hope everyone else is well.

They say this look
comes with happiness.
But the mirror breaks
when my eyes graze it.
How much longer will
eternity last?

How can I
gauge success and failure?
If i've done both
with grace and attitude.
And thought too much
over the consequences from both.

They told me this was
a semi-permanant feeling.
A stage that
would leave me be.
But, I'm still feeling it
ten years later,
and the answer is
always just out of reach.

So I ask myself,
How will I be remembered?
And I don't like the answers that I've found.
My identity has been lost
in a mirage of contradictions
and feelings that overwhelmed
my feeble mind.

So, take this baggage
and leave me.
And hope we
meet again one day.
Because neither of us
know who we are now.
And things, my friends,
things always change.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. I'm sick and I know it. [27 May 2006|03:37am]

I love you. And not, not in a friendly way, although I think we're great friends. And not in a misplaced affection, puppy-dog way, although I'm sure that's what you'll call it. I love you. Very, very simple, very truly. You are the epitome of everything I have ever looked for in another human being. And I know that you think of me as just a friend, and crossing that line is the furthest thing from an option you would ever consider. But I had to say it. I just, I can't take this anymore. I can't stand next to you without wanting to hold you. I can't, I can't look into your eyes without feeling that, that longing you only read about in trashy romance novels. I can't talk to you without wanting to express my love for everything you are. And I know this will probably queer our friendship - no pun intended - but I had to say it, because I've never felt this way before, and I don't care. I like who I am because of it. And if bringing this to light means we can't hang out anymore, then that hurts me. But God, I just, I couldn't allow another day to go by without just getting it out there, regardless of the outcome, which by the look on your face is to be the inevitable shoot-down. And, you know, I'll accept that. But I know... I know that some part of you is hesitating for a moment, and if there is a moment of hesitation, then that means you feel something too. All I ask, please, is that you just, you just not dismiss that - and try to dwell in it for just ten seconds. Alyssa, there isn't another soul on this fucking planet who has ever made me half the person I am when I'm with you, and I would risk this friendship for the chance to take it to the next plateau. Because it is there between you and me. You can't deny that. Even if, you know, even if we never talk again after tonight, please know that I'm forever changed because of who you are and what you've meant to me, which - while I do appreciate it - I'd never need a painting of birds bought at a diner to remind me of.

I never have much to say anymore. I do, but I've kept it bottled inside.

For all of you who hurt, suffer, ache, and cry, I can only lend you my heart and my shoulders.

I watched another one of my friends drive away today, into the misty grey fog that covers the bluegrass. What does it all mean? Is seperation inevitable?

Do not think that I don't know and don't think I don't hate you for it.

I love you. I wish I could change the past, make the present better for you, and help you shape and reconstruct your future.

I am very sick. Nyquil is more prominent in my blood than red blood cells.

I'm going to be out of comission for awhile.

Remember, I will always love you.

For you:

“Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.”

Dinner with the Dad [16 Feb 2006|04:24am]
[ mood | happy ]

Had a marvelous night out with my Dad tonight. He took me to J.W.'s, a steakhouse in Lexington. I must say, I was more impressed with their waiting staff than their food. Yes, they cooked my filet correctly--medium rare; but my dad's lamb was raw. (Ew.) The one good thing about dinner was the lobster bisque--absolutely amazing.

We enjoyed good conversation over good, but overly priced food. It was an interesting evening.

My dad made a point to tell me how proud of me he was. That made my night.

Hope all is well in lala land!
